- Support: Apply under the Half-Time Research Assistantship (HTRA) scheme, which includes an 8-hour weekly teaching assignment and a monthly stipend.
PhD (Part-Time / External / Sponsored)
- Eligibility: Postgraduate degree in Engineering or Technology + 2 years of professional experience in a recognized organization.
Direct PhD (MS + PhD Full-Time Program)
- Eligibility: Four-year UG degree from IITs, CFTIs, or UGC-approved universities, or a Master’s degree in Engineering/Technology.
- Requirement: Valid GATE score in a relevant discipline.
MS (Full-Time)
- Eligibility: Four-year undergraduate degree from IITs, CFTIs, or UGC-recognized institutions.
- Candidates with a three-year degree (like B.Sc.) must hold an additional Master’s degree.
- GATE score in any discipline is accepted.
MS (Part-Time / External / Sponsored)
- Eligibility: Same as full-time MS, with two years of professional experience required.
Admission Timeline for July 2026 Session
The application window for the PhD and MS (by Research) programs at IIT Madras will open on November 11, 2025.

Fellowships and Benefits for Full-Time Scholars

- ₹12,400 per month for two years.
- May be extended by six months based on performance and recommendation.
